Nodar Kumaritashvili of Georgia is seen in this video, crashing during a training run for the men's singles luge at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in Whistler, British Columbia, Friday, Feb. 12, 2010.
21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili passed away after crashing during a training run and hitting a metal pole. Rescue officials rushed to the scene and tried to revive him but to no avail. Kumaritashvili was lifted into an ambulance. Eight minutes after the crash, an air-rescue helicopter was summoned and was in the area over the track.
Looking at the video footage below, the luge course's design could possibly be a reason for the death. To have an opening in the course and having exposed metal poles right after a bend in the track is really a design that is questionable.
Below is the video of the actual crash of the Luger who died. May his soul rest in peace.
